Saving our Safety Net and Public Hospitals and Facilities

On January 20th, members of a coalition led by Doctors Council SEIU to save our safety net and health care facilities held a press conference on the steps of City Hall. The coalition is comprised of health care unions, consumers, community and advocacy organizations, including the Commission on the Public’s Health System (CPHS); Committee of Interns and Residents (CIR) SEIU Healthcare; Council of Municipal Hospitals' Community Advisory Boards; District Council 37, AFSCME; Doctors Council SEIU; Greater New York Labor-Religion Coalition; Health Care for America Now – New York; Make The Road New York; Metro NY Health Care for All Campaign; Municipal Labor Committee (MLC) of NYC; NYC District Council Carpenters; New York Immigration Coalition; New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA); Reconciliation and Culture Cooperative Network; South Asian Council for Social Services; The Bronx Health Link; and the Uniformed Fire Fighter’s Association of Greater New York.
Coalition leaders spoke at the press conference urging our U.S. Senators and Congress to protect our safety net and public hospitals and facilities by ensuring enough funding and protecting against any harmful provisions in any health care reform. Members also spoke about remaining strong and united in our goal of achieving health care reform.
